Tough second half dooms Sabre women’s lacrosse

Marian University women’s lacrosse (4-11, 1-6 NACC) competed in the opening half but a tough second half saw CUW earn a 19-11 victory.

  •  After CUW scored the opening goal of the game Marian responded with three straight scores, two from senior Emma Heide.
  • The Falcons netted the final goal of the first and the opener of the second to tie the game.
  • Back-to-back goals from senior Nicole Stachon put Marian ahead 5-3.
  • The Falcons were able to even the tally at 5-5 at halftime.
  • A dominating third quarter saw the Falcons outscore Marian 6-3 to lead 11-8.
  • The Falcons were able to put the game away netting eight of the first 10 goals of the fourth quarter.

  • Concordia Wisconsin had a 44-30 edge in shots in large part due to a third quarter where CUW outshot Marian 18-5.
  • The Sabres did finish with a 31-28 edge in ground balls, but the Falcons led in draw controls 20-12.
  • Marian struggled on its clear going 18-of-31 (.581) despite winning the turnover battle 31-27.
  • Concordia Wisconsin has won all eight meetings against the Sabres.

Senior Emma Heide finished with four caused turnovers, three ground balls, and two goals.
Freshman Piper Miller had four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
