SSM Health Waupun Memorial Hospital hosts successful free drive-thru shredding event

Traffic was steady during SSM Health Waupun Memorial Hospital’s free drive-thru paper shredding event on May 3 in celebration of Earth Day. About 100 cars drove through the hospital back driveway leaving behind 4,500 pounds of shredded materials.

To prevent identity theft, proper disposal of documents that contain private information is important. SSM Health partnered with Iron Mountain Information Management, LLC, to shred confidential documents which will ultimately be recycled to make paper towels, napkins, tissue, and toilet paper.

Participants were able to enter off Beaver Dam Street with volunteers helping to unload papers into the shredding truck on site. A free insulated reusable bag was given to the first 50 participants upon entry.

“Caring for the environment is an important part of the Mission of SSM Health,” says DeAnn Thurmer, SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital/SSM Health Waupun Memorial Hospital president. “With our value of stewardship, we encourage people to care for the earth and each other by recycling and the safe disposing of confidential information.”

A special thank you to all those helped, including Nicole Gill, Shelly Haberman, Jeremy Kamphuis, Sar Matthewson, Margene Post, Diane Posthuma, Heidi Ronson, DeAnn Thurmer, and Nicci Vande Zande.
