The SSM Health Fond du Lac Regional Clinic welcomes Richard Rosenberg, MD, a board-certified gastroenterologist, to its 420 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac, location. He is now accepting new patients.
Dr. Rosenberg cares for patients with gastroesophageal reflux, other esophageal disease, peptic ulcer disease, Celiac disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, colorectal polyps and cancer, gastrointestinal infections, constipation, diarrhea, and liver disease. He performs endoscopy, colonoscopy, video capsule endoscopy, and other procedures.
Throughout his career, Dr. Rosenberg has spent time expanding colorectal cancer screening services to traditionally underserved populations.
“Unlike most common forms of cancer, where efforts are directed at early detection, colon cancer is, for the most part, a preventable disease,” he explains. “While that provides a unique opportunity, finding novel ways to improve patient acceptance of colorectal cancer screening methods is always a challenge.”
Utilizing his academic experience, Dr. Rosenberg tries to explain complicated biological processes in ways that his patients and family members can understand.
“Patients come to us in a vulnerable position when they seek medical care,” according to Dr. Rosenberg. “Being entrusted with that responsibility and the information that patients share with us is an enormous privilege. When I feel that I did the best I could for the patient, I can rest easy at the end of the day.”
Dr. Rosenberg’s approach to patient care is very personalized.
“I try to get to know things about a patient that do not directly relate to their medical issues,” says Dr. Rosenberg. “Knowing the person is an important step toward understanding the medical issue they are seeking help with. It can be useful to imagine what your impression would be if you were a family member accompanying the patient to the visit and listening in on the conversation.”
A graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Rosenberg completed both his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, and practiced at Columbia University Medical Center for three decades. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and a member of the American Gastroenterological Association.
Dr. Rosenberg enjoys downhill skiing, golf, spectator sports, travel, fine dining, and wine. “Much of my travel leads me to places where there are oceans or mountains, but I also like to experience and learn about other cultures.”
In his free time, Dr. Rosenberg has volunteered in public health initiatives, and youth sports coaching.
