Season comes to a close for Sabre men’s volleyball

Marian University men’s volleyball (13-15, 6-6 NACC) saw its season come to a close falling to Dominican in the NACC Tournament Quarterfinals 25-23, 25-15, 21-25, 25-18.

  • The opening set was tightly contested with the largest lead being only three points.
  • A quick three straight points put the Sabres ahead 22-21, but Dominican bounced back scoring four of the final five points to lead 1-0.
  • The Stars opened the second set ahead 7-1 and never looked back in an easy victory.
  • Dominican opened the third set with a 10-8 lead before Marian showed life with a 9-2 run to lead 17 -12.
  • The Stars cut that deficit down to one but Marian finished the set scoring five of the final seven points.
  • The fourth set opened like the second as Dominican dominated early with a 10-3 advantage.
  • The Sabres fought back scoring six straight points later in the set to only trail 13-12.
  • A quick 5-1 run from Dominican shortly after put the Stars ahead 19-14.
  • Marian once again battled to only trail 21-18, but the Stars put the match away scoring four straight points.

  • Dominican finished with a 47-40 edge in kills and 35-21 advantage for digs.
  • The Stars hit had double-digit kills in each set and hit .425.
  • Marian had nine service aces, their second-highest total in a single match this season.
  • This is the first time Marian has won a set in the NACC Tournament since 2021.
  • Marian is 1-13 all-time against the Stars, 0-2 in the NACC Tournament, having dropped 10 straight.

Senior Isaac Dreifuerst had a match-high 14 kills and three digs.
Senior Derek Wills added 11 kills and had four service aces.
Junior Trent Goo Sun had 22 assists and three digs.
