Sabre women’s lacrosse drops shootout to Beloit

Marian University women’s lacrosse (4-9, 1-4 NACC) dropped a shootout to Beloit with a final tally of 24-17.

  • A busy opening quarter saw 11 total goals with Beloit holding a slim 4-2 lead to start.
  • Back-to-back goals from seniors Izzy Newton and Nicole Stachon tied the game at 4-4.
  • The Buccaneers then scored six straight goals to lead 10-4 with 12:52 left in the second.
  • The Sabres scored four of the final five goals of the half to only trail 11-8 at the break.
  • Beloit was able to extend its lead out to 16-10 but a goal from senior Emma Heide put the Sabres behind 16-11 heading into the fourth.
  • The fourth quarter was the busiest quarter for scoring as the two sides went back-and-forth.
  • The two squads combined for 14 goals over the final 15 minutes with Beloit outscoring Marian 8-6 to put the final at 24-17.

  • Beloit finished with a 45-31 advantage for shots and had double-digit shots in all four quarters.
  • The Buccaneers also had a 28-22 edge for ground balls and 32-13 advantage for draw controls.
  • Marian won the turnover battle by a slim 27-26 margin.
  • The Sabres are now 2-3 all-time against Beloit having been defeated in the last two games.
