Sabre softball suffers tough offensive day at CUC

Marian University softball (7-13, 2-4 NACC) had a tough offensive day falling to Concordia Chicago 1-0 and 8-2.

GAME 1

  • Concordia Chicago plated a run in the bottom of the first and it proved to be the lone run.
  • Marian was able to load the bases with only one out in the seventh, but were unable to bring home the tying tally.
  • The two teams combined for only seven hits.

GAME 2

  • Marian had a strong start to game two when junior Hope Matta scored in the first frame.
  • The Cougars were able to take seven unanswered runs with two in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth.
  • The Sabres cut their deficit down to 7-2 with a long ball from sophomore Savanna Knuth in the top of the sixth inning.
  • Concordia Chicago responded in the bottom half with a run of their own to put the final at 8-2.

Sophomore Sabrina Di Vito (4-5) suffered a tough-luck loss in game one allowing just four hits over 6.0 innings of work.
Junior Ariana Schliepp was the lone Sabre with a hit in both games going 2-for-3 in game two.
Junior Hope Matta was 2-for-4 in game two with a run scored.
