Sabre softball bats silenced by Dominican

Marian University softball (5-9, 0-2 NACC) was shutout twice falling to Dominican 4-0 and 6-0 in its home opener.

GAME 1

  • A pitching duel to start, Dominican took the lead off of a two-out triple in the third.
  • A costly error with two outs in the fifth allowed Dominican to plate three unearned runs.
  • The Sabres were set down in order the rest of the way leading to the 4-0 final.

GAME 2

  • The Stars came out swinging to open game two scoring two in the first, one in the second, and two more in the third to lead 5-0.
  • Dominican added to its lead in the sixth inning but Marian was able to strand the bases loaded.
  • This proved to be enough as the Sabres only had two runners reach scoring position in the defeat.

Senior Kendall Pliner had three hits on the day with a multi-hit effort in game one.
Junior Morgan Mack threw 2.2 innings between the two games allowing just one hit.
Junior Hope Matta had three hits in the twin bill with a multi-hit effort in game two.
