Rally falls short for Sabre women’s lacrosse

Marian University women’s lacrosse (3-8, 0-3 NACC) was defeated at home 13-10 by Edgewood.

  • Senior Nicole Stachon found the back of the net on a woman-up goal as the two sides traded goals early in the game.
  • Edgewood scored four of the final five goals of the first quarter to lead 5-2 after 15 minutes.
  • The Eagles built their lead to 7-2 before seniors Emma Heide and Makenzie Gaulke each scored to bring the Sabre deficit to 7-4.
  • Edgewood managed to score two goals separated by just 11 seconds and went into halftime leading 9-5.
  • The two sides traded goals to open the third quarter with the Eagles managing an 11-6 lead heading into the final stanza.
  • The Eagles scored the first two goals of the final quarter to lead 13-6.
  • Marian then scored four unanswered, two from Stachon, to bring their deficit down to 13-10.
  • This would be as close as Marian could manage, however.

  • Marian outshot Edgewood in three of the four quarters and had a 29-25 advantage.
  • The Sabres also had a 30-26 advantage for ground balls.
  • The Marian defense forced 34 turnovers and held Edgewood 13-of-25 (.520) on clear attempts.
  • Edgewood dominated on draws by a 20-7 advantage and went 4-for-7 (.571) on free-position shots.
  • Marian is now 2-3 all-time against Edgewood.
