Marian women’s bowling clinches second straight NCAA Tournament bid

Marian University women’s bowling earned its second straight, fourth overall, CCIW Tournament Championship to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season.

  • The morning opened with an elimination match against Carroll where Marian was able to sweep traditional and Baker play.
  • The Sabres earned a convincing 931-828 victory in traditional action before a close 879-877 victory in Baker pin fall.
  • This set Marian up for a rematch with Aurora where the Sabres were able to earn another sweep.
  • The Sabres opened with an 877-806 traditional victory to pave the way for a dominating 875-742 win in Baker total pinfall.
  • Marian was the only school to finish with at least 857 pins in traditional play and they did so in all four matches of the tournament.
  • In match seven, a best-of-seven Baker match, it was the Spartans who found their stride to take the opening game.
  • A dramatic one-pin victory for Marian in game two helped set Marian up to take a 3-1 advantage in the match.
  • Aurora stormed right back, however, taking the next two games to force a winner-take-all seventh game.
  • The Spartans used their momentum to build a 102-75 lead through the first five frames.
  • With their backs against the wall, Marian then tossed a four-bagger to lead 181-169 in the ninth frame.
  • Senior Brenna Schiekiera then capped off the comeback with nine pins in the 10th for a dramatic 190-189 victory in game seven.
  • This is the fourth CCIW Tournament Championship for Marian and it earns the Sabres a second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.
  • The selection show for the NCAA Tournament will be available at ncaa.org Wednesday, March 26 at 3 p.m.

Junior Elana Rimer finished with the highest traditional average in the field at 190.5 pins over four games.
Junior Kyley Olson finished third for traditional average at 189.3 pins.
Sophomore Delanie Vogt was named one of two recipients of the CCIW Elite 26 award, highest grade-point average at the conference championship.
