Marian softball returns to action with sweep of Ripon

Marian University softball (5-7, 0-0 NACC) didn’t allow a run in a sweep of Ripon with finals of 3-0 and 11-0 in five innings.

GAME 1

  • Marian was able to open the scoring for game one in the top of the second when junior Riley Mankowski scored off of a single and an error from sophomore Mackenzie Christofferson.
  • The tight 1-0 lead held until the sixth when a pinch-hit double from senior Kerena Wood drove in a pair of runs.
  • This proved to be plenty as Marian posted its third shutout of the season.

GAME 2

  • The Sabre bats came alive in game two opening the scoring with four runs in the second frame.
  • Mankowski had the big hit of the inning driving in two runs with a single.
  • Marian then scored seven runs between the fourth and fifth inning to induce the mercy rule.
  • Junior Ariana Schliepp drove in a pair of runs to open a three-run fourth inning.
  • Then to finish a four-run fifth inning senior Kendall Pliner brought home a pair of runs with a double.
  • Marian is now 26-19 all-time against Ripon having won the last seven meetings.
  • This is the first time Marian has shutout its open in both games of a doubleheader since 2023.

Junior Riley Mankowski was 5-for-7 on the day with three runs driven in and three runs scored.
Graduate student Cailie Pliner (1-5) tossed her first shutout of the season in game two.
Sophomore Savanna Knuth went 4-for-7 at the plate with a run scored and a run driven in.
