Marian softball posts pair of shutouts against Aurora

Marian University softball (13-13, 6-4 NACC) swept Aurora for the first time in program history with wins of 8-0 in six innings and 4-0.

GAME 1

  • Sophomore Sabrina Di Vito started the offense early with a single that drove in two runs in the opening frame.
  • Fellow sophomore Erin Cowe then brought home the next four runs for Marian over the course of four innings to put Marian ahead 6-0 in the sixth.
  • The very next at bat in the sixth saw senior Kendall Pliner end the game early with a single that drove in two runs.
  • The victory was the first mercy-rule win for the Sabres over Aurora.

GAME 2

  • The Sabres wasted no time in game two with Cowe and junior Ariana Schliepp each driving in a run in the first to put Marian ahead 2-0.
  • A solo home run from Pliner in the third gave the Sabres a 3-0 advantage.
  • Cowe closed out the scoring for the game bringing in a run in the fourth.
  • The sweep is the first for Marian softball over Aurora in program history.
  • The Sabres are now 9-38 all-time against Aurora but Marian has won the last three meetings.

Sophomore Erin Cowe continued her strong play of late going 4-for-7 with five runs driven in and two runs scored.
Sophomore Sabrina Di Vito (7-5) struck out six hitters in game one as part of her fourth shutout this season.
Junior Sofia Cerullo was 3-for-3 with three runs scored in game one.
