Marian softball cruises past Alverno

Marian University softball (11-13, 6-4 NACC) earned wins of 13-4 in six innings and 20-4 in five innings over Alverno.

GAME 1

  • Marian scored in all six innings of the game one victory.
  • Junior Ariana Schliepp hit a two-run homer in the first as part of a three-run opener.
  • The Inferno responded with three runs of their own before Marian scored two runs in the second and third inning.
  • The two squads traded long balls in the third and fourth with senior Kendall Pliner going deep for Marian.
  • The Sabres were able to end the game early with two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth.
  • Sophomore Nevaeh Wagendorf and junior Riley Mankowski each hit homers in the sixth.

GAME 2

  • The second game was similar with Marian scoring four runs in the first inning.
  • The Sabres were able to break the game open scoring 11 runs in the second inning.
  • Marian was able to score three runs in the third and two more in the fifth to secure the sweep.
  • The Sabres are now 38-18 all-time against Alverno having won the last 16 meetings.

Sophomore Erin Cowe was 6-for-8 with five runs driven in and four runs scored.
Sophomore Hope Matta was 4-for-4 with seven runs scored and two driven in.
Junior Morgan Mack was 3-for-3 with two runs driven in and a run scored in game two.
