Marian baseball salvages split at Edgewood

Marian University baseball (7-9, 2-2 NACC) fell to Edgewood 4-3 before salvaging a split with a 10-1 victory.

GAME 1

  • The Sabres were on the board first when senior Ryan Nelson drove in a run in the second.
  • He then stayed in a run down long enough for fellow senior James Bornick to score on a first-and-third situation to put Marian ahead 2-0.
  • A solo homer from senior Albert Kiszka in the fourth inning extended the Marian lead to 3-0.
  • Edgewood was held in check until following the stretch when the Eagles scored four runs to lead 4-3.
  • Marian put the tying run in scoring position in the ninth but were unable to rally.
  • The Sabres were limited to just three hits in the defeat.

GAME 2

  • After three quiet innings sophomore Lucas Lemons was able to drive in three runs with a double to open the scoring in the fourth.
  • Fellow sophomore Marc Jones then hit a three-run homer, his first of the season, later in the inning to put Marian ahead 6-0.
  • Marain added on in the fifth inning when sophomore Keon Booker brought home a run with a single and Lemons drove in two more runs with a single.
  • Edgewood scored an unearned run in the sixth to trail 9-1 before senior Gus Walker drove in a run in the ninth with a single to put the final at 10-1.
  • Marian is now 47-36 all-time against Edgewood.

Senior Tanner Alsteen (2-1) allowed just one unearned run in a complete game victory in game two.
Sophomore Lucas Lemons was 2-for-4 with five runs driven in and a run scored in game two.
Graduate student Robbie Knorr was 3-for-5 with a run scored in game two.
