Marian baseball pushes win streak to five

Marian University baseball (12-10, 7-3 NACC) pushed its win streak to five games with victories of 7-5 and 7-4 at St. Norbert

GAME 1

  • St. Norbert was able to plate a run in the bottom of the first but Marian immediately responded with two runs in the second, two in the third, and another in the fourth.
  • Senior Jacob Kleemann hit a double to plate a run in the second and fellow senior James Bornick hit his third homer of the season in the third.
  • Another run-producing hit from Bornick in the fourth put the Sabres ahead 5-1.
  • The Green Knights rallied for two in the fifth to cut the Marian lead to two.
  • Marian responded in the seventh when the Sabres scored two in the seventh highlighted by another Kleemann double.
  • St. Norbert was able to plate a run in the seventh and led off the ninth with a long ball but Marian was able to hold on for the win.

GAME 2

  • The Sabres started game two quickly scoring the first four runs of the game.
  • Sophomore Lucas Lemons hit his first home run as a Sabre in the third, while graduate student Robbie Knorr and each sophomore Marc Jones plated a run each in the fourth.
  • This advantage was erased in the fifth as SNC was able to score four runs.
  • The 4-4 stalemate stood until the eighth when sophomore Keon Booker drove in a run with a double.
  • Marian was able to cushion its lead in the ninth with Kleemann and Rademan each bringing home a run to put the score at 7-4.
  • This proved to be more than enough as SNC was limited to just two hits over the final 4.0 innings.
  • Marian is now 19-5 all-time against St. Norbert and have won the last nine meetings.

Senior Jacob Kleemann was 4-for-6 in game one and drove in a total of three runs on the day.
Senior Tanner Alsteen (4-1) earned the win in game two tossing the final 4.0 innings allowing only two hits.
Graduate student Robbie Knorr was 3-for-4 with a run scored and a run driven in in game two.
