City of Fond du Lac Celebrates the Opening of Plamore Park and Miracle League of Fond du Lac Complex

City hosts ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of accessible playground and Miracle League baseball field

Yesterday, the City of Fond du Lac hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the accessible playground and Miracle League of Fond du Lac complex at Plamore Park.

The City of Fond du Lac’s 2022 budget allocated a contribution of up to $1 million in federal funds through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) for construction, which began in August 2022. The new complex and playground are designed to be accessible for all people with varying abilities. The playground, which was designed, manufactured and installed by BCI Burke, is completely barrier-free, and features a rubberized surface and accessible equipment designed for children with physical, cognitive and sensory disabilities. Additionally, a multi-purpose court was constructed for activities such as basketball and pickleball.

Provided by Brooke Industries, Inc., the Miracle League of Fond du Lac is a program that will offer inclusive and adaptive baseball opportunities for children and adults with disabilities. This program will create a safe, supportive environment for individuals with disabilities to experience the joy of playing the game and being part of a team. The new baseball field is made of rubberized turf, fully accessible by wheelchair and other mobility devices. The flat surface prevents injuries and allows access to those who are visually impaired and use mobility devices. The field also includes wheelchair accessible dugouts, wide walkways, an accessible parking lot, a sheltered concession stand, scoreboard and bleacher seating.

The ribbon cutting ceremony included remarks from City Manager Joe Moore, City Council President Keith Heisler, Director of Public Works Paul DeVries, Parks Superintendent John Redmond and Kelli Hughes, Executive Director at Brooke Industries, Inc.

“The City of Fond du Lac is proud to open Plamore Park to the community,” shared City Manager Joe Moore. “This new addition to the City underscores our continued commitment to ensure every kid has a place to play, and have fun with their friends and family.”

“Our investment in Plamore Park will foster a sense of community and inclusivity for all of our residents,“ said Director of Public Works Paul DeVries. “We look forward to welcoming everyone to an improved communal space to enjoy new opportunities for recreation and community connection.”

“We are honored to launch the Miracle League of Fond du Lac into the array of services Brooke Industries provides to individuals in Fond du Lac and surrounding communities,” expressed Executive Director Kelli Hughes. “We expect to electrify the Plamore Park complex with this unique and inspiring baseball league that generates a rewarding experience for participants, families, spectators and volunteers.”

The City of Fond du Lac encourages residents of all abilities to enjoy Plamore Park and continue to nurture the values of inclusivity and acceptance within the community.
