City of Fond du Lac Celebrates the Opening of Lighthouse, Lighthouse Drive and Boardwalk at Lakeside Park West

City hosts ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of recent construction projects

Today, the City of Fond du Lac hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the historic Lighthouse and Lighthouse Drive post-renovations, as well as the new Boardwalk at Lakeside Park West.

Construction on the Lighthouse and Lighthouse Drive began in March 2023. A cornerstone in the community since 1933, the Lighthouse received structural repairs, new siding, and replacement wooden windows and mortar. Mortar was specially mixed to match the original work and wooden windows were selected to keep the integrity of the original design.

Lighthouse Drive renovations included replacing pavement, adding a multi-use path and street lighting, an updated parking lot and new trees. In addition, the peninsula has a paved walking trail and bike path, new pavement and an updated parking lot.

The ribbon cutting ceremony included remarks from City Manager Joe Moore, City Council President Keith Heisler, Director of Public Works Paul DeVries and Parks Superintendent John Redmond.

“On behalf of the City of Fond du Lac, we are proud to have completed these renovations on the Lighthouse and Lighthouse Drive, and opened the new boardwalk at Lakeside Park West,” shared City Manager Joe Moore. “These projects will provide a beautiful and safe space for our community to gather and enjoy the outdoors for generations to come.”

“By investing in our local parks, we are investing in the health and happiness of our residents and the future of our city,” said Director of Public Works Paul DeVries. “I look forward to seeing the positive impact these projects will have on our community.”

With the completion of these projects, the City of Fond du Lac encourages its residents to enjoy Lakeside Park as a source of recreation, relaxation and community building for years to come.
