Road enhancements will maintain and improve City’s infrastructure
Through the spring and summer of 2025, the City of Fond du Lac will complete road enhancements on Main Street from 6th Street to Merrill Street. Main Street will remain open for the duration of the project; however, there will be temporary lane closures to accommodate active work.
“Road rehabilitation projects are essential for maintaining and improving our city’s infrastructure,” said Director of Public Works Paul De Vries. “This project will enhance the corridor’s safety and drivability for all users for years to come, and will only require minimal maintenance and upkeep going forward.”
To help downtown businesses thrive throughout the project, the Downtown Fond du Lac Partnership (DFP) Marketing Committee and staff have developed this Main Street Makeover toolkit – an all-in-one resource offering ideas, guidance, suggestions and best practices to ensure businesses have the support they need during the project.
“The City of Fond du Lac remains committed to minimizing disruptions for local businesses while ensuring a smooth and efficient project,” said Community Development Director Dyann Benson. “We encourage businesses to plan ahead and consider potential impacts on their employees and customers and to make necessary arrangements during the project.”
The Main Street rehabilitation process will involve milling & removing the top 5-7 inches of asphalt and laying a new layer of pavement in its place. Work will take place from approximately 7:00 a.m. to dusk, Monday through Friday, beginning the week of April 7 until the project is completed. During the project, sidewalks should remain open, and Main Street entrances to businesses should not be impacted.
The project will be completed in two phases, with the first phase taking place on North Main Street, from 1st Street to Merrill Street. This is anticipated to begin in late April and be completed in late June. Then, the second phase will begin following the completion of Phase 1 on South Main Street, from 6th Street to 1st Street. There will be no gap in construction between the two phases. The tentative completion date of the rehabilitation project is September 6, 2025.
